Vroom Vroom Customization
Overview:
Vroom vroom! Decorate your dream car with this car customization demo! You can change the colors of different sections of your car and add ornaments and decals. So get ready, set, go!
Features:
This is a multi-platform racing and car customization game. The design team made an interactive prototype with the following visual customization features:
- A custom surface shader which allows the player to randomize or select a new color scheme for the car. The color scheme must change both the paint and upholstery colors in a harmonious (but not identical) fashion while preserving surface details such as rust and wear. A full RGB spectrum should be possible.
- A decal system that allows the player to optionally add one of 4 different “tattoo” sets to further customize the appearance. The tattoos can be monochromatic.
- A car ornament system which allows the player to optionally add one of 4 different ornaments, e.g. spoilers, hood ornament, etc. These should also use the custom surface shader.
- An on-screen GUI with buttons and sliders to control customization.
- The final car should be able to export from the “Build Your Car” scene into the “Race!” scene.
- When the player clicks or taps parts of the car, they turn on or animate. e.g. doors should open/close, lights should turn on/off, and the horn should honk.
- Interactable camera rotation so when the user clicks and drags they can rotate the camera view.
- The UX group also wants all player input to produce feedback. e.g. if a non-interactive part of the car is clicked/tapped, it should react by rocking on its suspension slightly.
- All interactions should play a theme-appropriate sound effect e.g. car sounds.
- An overall cohesive visual aesthetic where the UI complements the appearance of the car in the scene. This may or may not involve environmental assets.
- Post-processing to show the beauty lighting of the scene.
- A short animation when the user presses the “Build Your Car” button to have some flair when the scenes are switching.
